Sensational author and talk show host Tavis Smiley is bringing a multi-media stage presentation of his best-seller to the Palace Theatre!
Tavis Smiley, was born in Gulfport (Mississippi) in 1964 and is a talk show host and author. He's written/co-written 21 books and he currently hosts best PBS' late night television show Tavis Smiley and Public Radio International's Tavis Smiley Show. He's received many accolades including 3 NAACP Image Awards (for Best News, Talk, or Information Series), a Mickey Leland Humanitarian Award from the National Association of Minorities in Communications, a Du Bois Medal from Harvard University's W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research, an honorary doctorate at Langston University, and Interdependence Day Prize from Demos (a United States based think tank, research and policy center founded in 2000 that presents a liberal viewpoint on economic issues). Time magazine has named him one of America's 50 Most Promising Young Leaders and it also included him on its list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World' list. He's also created a foundation that funds programs to develop young leaders in the community and in 2014, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The stage presentation of his best-seller (Death of A King: The Real Story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Final Year), features Tavis (as the narrator) and original compositions (performed by jazz pianist Marcus Roberts).
